On December 14, the executive group of the “Searching for Coordinates in History” Plan held a workshop at National Tou-Liu Senior High School for high school students. Professor Yu-hsun Yang from the Department of History at National Chung Cheng University was invited to give a lecture: “Studying History is Fun: Taking the Song Dynasty as an Example” to share his experience in learning and studying history of the Song dynasty. Starting from a famous Chinese painting Along the River during the Qingming Festival, Professor Yang vividly described people’s lives, prosperous commerce, and advanced navigation technique of the Song dynasty. Through different kinds of materials, such as biographies, paintings or antiques, faces of the Song dynasty could be revealed. Professor Yang encouraged students to see and interpret history from diverse angles and aspects, for example, political, social or cultural ones and to develop critical and independent thinking.
