本次會議由趙席敻博士生報告〈動保先行者：呂碧城與中國的動物保護運 動 〉，介紹三零年代的中國動物保護先驅呂碧城之生平與思想，探討其在動物保護 領域的貢獻與推展上的限制。

This meeting was focused on Miss Zhao Xi Xiong’s Ph. D. Thesis on the “ Lu Bi Cheng’s animal protection movement in China”. During the meeting Miss Zhao introduced the Chinese animal protection pioneer Lü Bi Cheng and her life and passion on the field of animal protection and the contribution, promotion and restrictions of such animal protection programs

1926年，呂開始與西方動保人士接觸。1929年5月12日，呂氏以個人身分參加在維也納舉辦的「萬國仁慈保護禽獸大會」，並上台演講講述戒殺，同時逐漸了解西方當時之動保議題。呂氏並在報紙上向國內介紹國際上的動保風潮、護生與蔬食團體、廢屠運動，促成雙方有限的交流。1933年5月21日，「中國動物保護會」成立，籌備委員多社會賢達，甚至是國民黨要員，其中並多佛教界人士，惟呂氏並未參與該會行政運作，只有贊助而已。呂氏未參與中國動保會之實際運作，致使其未能推廣更多雙方的交流，同時，其未充分深入護生與動保的本質性與內涵上的差異，對當時動物之現狀理解不深，對放生之弊病亦未能省察。1937年，呂氏至歐美國家宣導佛教及慈悲戒殺之觀念，冀能以此阻止戰禍。1940年，呂氏避戰淡出社交圈，於香港虔心向佛，並譯漢文佛經為英文。其死後遺產捐予佛教界弘法護生，依遺願海葬。
