The research team of Sino-foreign Relations and the Formation of Modern China has had an academic exchange with Prof. Zang Yunhu from Beijing University on Jan. 1st. In this meeting, the participants discussing three parts of diplomatic history research in China since 1949, including research status, basic historical material, representative works, and related issues.

Because that the foundation of historical research are related materials, China government since the 1950s have started to publish the archival collection about the foreign Relationship and diplomatic history. Furthermore, the First Historical Archives of China and the Second one, also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, General Administration of Customs and the National Archives had also collated interrelated information to come out compilations one after the other since 1980s. As for other publications about seminar papers and selected books, which related to foreign relation, are followed up by scholars in related fields.

In the end, Prof. Zang put forward four view points and prospects such as People’s Republic of Chinese diplomatic continuity, diplomatic vicissitude from weak to power, relocation of diplomatic history research, and finally the diversity in research material with particularity of China modern diplomacy.
